Difference between plasticizer DOP and DOTP

February 24, 2023

Dop 17 Jpg

DOP is the most widely used non-environment-friendly main Plasticizer, with a wide range of applications. Due to the increasingly stringent requirements of downstream products on environmental protection, the sales of DOP have decreased year by year.

DOTP is the main plasticizer for environmental protection. As the price is close to DOP, it is the preferred alternative to DOP. DOTP is an excellent environmental friendly plasticizer without phthalate, which is not within the range of 16 phthalate plasticizers restricted by EU countries. Most plasticizers are phthalates, and all three are of this type. The difference lies in the different ester groups. DOP: dioctyl phthalate, DIDP: diisobecyl phthalate, DINP: diisobonyl phthalate, 6P is actually the abbreviation of six phthalate plasticizers. According to the control instructions of EU Directive 2005/84/EC,

Six kinds of phthalate plasticizers are: dihexyl phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), butyl phthalate (BBP), diisoononyl phthalate (DINP), diisoodecyl phthalate (DIDP), dioctyl phthalate (DNOP), plasticizers, such as DOTP, are environmentally friendly plasticizers.

Properties and uses of plasticizer DOTP This product is a colorless low viscosity liquid. The viscosity is 63mPa. S(25℃),5mPa。 S(100℃),410mPa。 S(0℃)。 Freezing point - 48 ℃. Boiling point 383 ℃ (0.1MPa), s (0 ℃). The ignition point is 399 ℃. The refractive index is 1.4887. Water solubility 0.4% (20 ℃), hydrolysis rate 0.04% (boiling water 96h). Volatilization loss is 12% (weight) (heating at 177 ℃ for 24h). DOP is a product of ortho benzene. The EU has restricted the export of ortho benzene. Many exported ortho benzene are required to meet the 6P or 16P quality standards: the appearance of oily liquid is transparent and there is no suspended matter; Ester content,%>99.0; Density (20 ℃), g/cm 30.981-0.986; Acidity (calculated by phthalic acid)<0.015; Flash point>210 ℃; Chromaticity (platinum cobalt)<50; Heating decreased by<0.1%.

Plasticizer DOTP has better electrical properties and cold resistance than DOP, low volatility, and higher plasticizing efficiency. It is suitable for PVC Resin plasticizers, such as PVC cable materials requiring high insulation. Used for products with high requirements for insulation, extraction resistance, heat resistance, cold resistance and softness. The plasticizing paste required for this product can reduce viscosity and increase storage life. Plasticizer DOTP can be mixed with DOP in any proportion. This product is used as plasticizer in synthetic resin, rubber, cable material and other plastic industries. It can be widely used in artificial leather, pu, PVC cable material, plastic film, plastic sandals, foam sandals, door and window sealing strips, PVC profiles, soft boards, various soft and hard pipes, decorative materials, foam boards and all products. The use of plasticizers can reduce the production cost of enterprises by more than 30%, which can open the environmental protection trade barriers in the EU.
